As we face the brink of an economic collapse, it is indeed disheartening to note our moral values similarly fail. Our moral values at this point in time are absolutely not the same as they had been many years before.
Even the simplest acts within which good morals could be gleaned are fastly deteriorating, such as helping the elderly and the disabled, kissing the hands of parents and grandparents, asking permission from parents or guardians whenever the teener goes out, extending helping hands to those in need, giving due respect to other people's rights, and such other simple values which should have been preserved and developed instead of having been neglected.
It could be observed that the diminishing moral values do not apply to teeners but to adults as well, including public servants who are supposed to set the best example to the citizenry. Immoral activities are so rampant these days and these are participated in by people from all walks of life. It is even more discouraging to realize that we could hardly do something to revive these moral values we had for sometime in the past.
It is, therefore, high time that we take the initial steps towards the development and preservation of moral values. We should perhaps start with the youth including the pupils from primary school level. moral values should be instigated in their youthful minds at the very early stage of growth and should be consistently cultivated. Parents should also do their part in the development of their children moral values and formal education must also include proper motivation and appropriate instructions towards the development and preservation of our values.
If we would just go hand in hand and hold on to our moral responsibilities, we could prove that it is not too late to revive and preserve what we nearly lost.
