Odiongan , new habitat of pawikan
By J.C.

It was learned that in Australia, they have identified 50 citings of sea turtle or pawikan and it was believed that their migration pattern starts from Japan to Australia.
It is interesting to know that from Japan to Australia, this sea turtle or pawikan might have passed thru the Philippines, and we are very lucky enough that it has chosen Romblon as its stop over point from Japan to Australia.
Those said countries have organized an international conference to discuss means to preserve  this endangered specie.
The most common cause of the disappearance of this specie is very fast in development of the country such as the U.S., due to fast development of hotels, resorts or beaches and has practically disturb the nesting place of sea turtle or pawikan.
It is very urgent therefore, that beaches or sea areas where sea turtle or pawikan are found must be proclaimed as protected areas and its habitat must not be disturb by development of beaches and resorts.
